President’s Message
Thank you for visiting the website for the Savannah Area Chapter of the Appraisal Institute. The goals of our organization are to promote the Appraisal Institute in our region, provide top quality appraisal educational programs in the Savannah Area, provide support and assistance to associates seeking either the MAI or SRA designations, and to promote our membership to the public as the authority in providing real estate appraisal solutions. Our chapter is achieving these goals through providing real estate appraisal related courses and seminars, sponsoring meetings for our members which feature prominent speakers who are knowledgeable about today’s dynamic real estate market, and various other public relations efforts. Overall, our members enjoy these benefits, as well as tremendous networking opportunities which allow them to reach greater levels of success in their day-to-day business.
In today’s volatile and ever-changing real estate market, it is important that real estate appraisers align themselves with The Appraisal Institute. As a member, you will have access to professional publications, education, resources and benefits from the world’s leader in the appraisal profession. Advancement to a designation will improve your skills and knowledge in ways you never dreamed and increase your client base and income as your skill set grows. In addition, you will meet and network with other professionals in the appraisal field. The benefits of membership are as varied as they are rewarding. These benefits reach even to the state and national government.
Recently, there has been a lot of interest in reforming the financial markets following the collapse of the sub-prime mortgage market and the resulting global financial crisis. In July, Congress passed and the President signed into law the Financial Reform Act of 2010. This law includes language protecting the independence of appraisers and their right to “customary and reasonable fees” for their work. The Appraisal Institute lead the way in pressing for this language as well as other elements of the law that will be beneficial to all appraisers. This support of appraisers by the National Appraisal Institute has provided a loud and effective voice in the halls of power. Your membership will increase that voice.
